Introduction

Eliminate fatty tissues in your body when diet and exercise will not cut it

Changing the body’s appearance is often times more involved than just eating a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly.  Even the strictest of diet and exercise regimens are sometimes not enough to eliminate fatty tissues stored in the body.

Body contouring are surgical procedures used to modify body shape or form. Body contouring removes or lifts excess skin to provide tone and contour. Lift surgeries are contouring procedures that involve lifting or raising sagging skin, resulting in a tighter more toned appearance. Some body contouring surgeries transfer fat to targeted areas to contour the overall appearance.

Depending on your goals, your body shape and tissue structure and form Dr. Craft will work with you to create a body contouring plan.

Body Procedures

Liposuction

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes stubborn fat that is unresponsive to dieting and exercising, toning the body and smoothing body shape and contour. Liposuction can be performed on almost any area of the body, effectively removing love handles, saddlebags, a double-chin, abdomen fat or bulges, and other unsightly fatty deposits. Liposuction is relatively non-invasive and results in a proportioned body shape, improved tone, decreased fatty deposits and an overall spectacular body transformation.

Tummy Tuck

The abdomen is susceptible to problem areas such as sagginess, excess fat deposits or a protruding abdomen. These problems are caused by pregnancy, significant weight gain, and loss, aging, or your genetic predisposition. Sometimes a healthy lifestyle is incapable of eliminating these problem areas and a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) is an effective solution to target these problem areas. A tummy tuck eliminates excess skin and fat, tightens the entire abdomen and produces a flat abdomen with enhanced muscle tone.

Mini Tummy Tuck

Like a full tummy tuck, the mini tummy tuck is designed for individuals with some excess fat and/or sagginess in the lower abdomen. The procedure is similar to a tummy tuck but is designed for patients with a smaller number of problem areas specific to the lower abdomen. A mini tummy tuck restructures and remodels the abdominal area to produce a more flattering look.

Body Lift

A body lift is designed for patients who have gained and lost a substantial amount of weight (over 100 pounds). A body lift, (belt lipectomy), lifts and reshapes sagging body contours, improving muscle tone and indented or irregular skin. Body lift procedures are designed to remove loose skin and related fat deposits, providing firmer skin and enhanced tone. If you have lost a significant amount of weight a body lift might be the final step in your total body transformation.

Arm Lift

An arm lift or brachioplasty is designed to tighten and tone loose, saggy skin under the arm that may be caused by excessive weight loss, heredity or a result of the natural aging process. Designed to define the shape of the upper arm, eliminating the “bat wing “appearance. An arm lift can also be performed in conjunction with liposuction.

Weight Loss

After substantial weight loss excess skin, loose tissue or alterations in body proportions are common. The excess skin may have loss firmness and pliability and is unable to conform to your new body shape. After maintaining and bearing a lot of weight for a long time, the tissue in the skin is overextended and strained, resulting in a lack of elasticity. Because of these issues, patients who have lost substantial weight are often dissatisfied with their post-weight loss body and sometimes perceive the excess skin as reminders of their weight before the loss. For these patients, body contouring usually requires a combination of different procedures in order to remove excess skin and improve the contour and tone of your entire body.

Age & Gravity

Skin sagging may also occur due to age and gravity. Body contouring can remove the excess skin and contour, shape or tone your body.

Enhancements

For some, body contouring procedures are performed to accomplish enhanced and improved body augmentation. Depending on body proportions, natural body tone and firmness, some patients may choose procedures to contour their body, developing and enhancing their overall features.
Not everyone who has experienced significant weight loss, have sagging skin or desires body enhancement are candidates for body contouring.

Suitable candidates who may find body contouring beneficial include:

  • Individuals who have experienced substantial weight loss.
  • Individuals who wish to enhance or improve body contour.
  • Individuals who have reached their target weight and/or have stabilized their weight loss and gain. This is essential as considerable weight loss following the surgery may cause additional excess skin and problems experienced pre-surgery, while substantial weight gain may cause scars and stretch marks.
  • Individuals without co-morbidities or other factors that may impede healing post-surgery.
  • Individuals who do not smoke.
  • Individuals who are committed to healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

Recovery

The recovery time for body contouring differentiates depending on your body contouring plan. In recent years, the recovery time for body contouring procedures has become quicker and less invasive than years before. The procedures all have differing recovery expectations and plans. Normally, recovery time is anywhere from 2 – 6 weeks. Your surgeon will be able to accurately clarify the estimated recovery time to you when you create your body contouring plan. Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time.

  • Regardless of the surgery, the surgical sites will be covered in bandages. Your surgeon will give you instructions on providing an optimal environment for wound healing. Generally, you will keep the bandages on the wound as long as possible, you will use advanced dressings, you will report any drainage or bleeding to your healthcare team and you will follow your surgeon’s instructions for any surgical fastener removal as instructed.
  • Small tubes or drains may be placed under your skin to ensure excess fluid is safely removed from your body. Your surgeon or nurse will give you instructions on caring and emptying these drains. The drains are usually removed 7 – 10 days after surgery.
  • You may be prescribed medication to take after your surgery.
  • Your surgeon will give you a physical activity schedule for your recovery.
  • Your surgeon will give you instructions for eating following your surgery.
  • Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery.  Any pain can be treated effectively with oral medication.
  • Your surgeon will give you instructions for follow-up appointments as necessary.

We offer many different safe, effective procedures that will assist you in achieving the body of your dreams. Talk to Dr. Craft during your initial consultation about your body contouring options.
